There are many reasons to visit Sydney in October, but Sydney Good Food Month is by far the tastiest. Since its inception in 1998, Sydney Good Food Month (previously called Crave Sydney International Food Festival) has grown into the foodie event of the year. The 2014 festival will feature guest appearances by such chefs as Yotam Ottolenghi and David Thompson, a chocolate festival held in the historic Rocks District and the beloved Night Noodle Markets, which will return to Hyde Park for the 16th year. Here are five recurring events to fill you up during Sydney Good Food Month 2014.

1. Breakfast Club

(Select dates throughout October at at least 17 Sydney restaurants, $20)
Sydney knows how to do breakfast, or ‘brekky,’ and set morning menus at cafes from the downtown Mint to the terrace at Icebergs in Bondi Beach will make you get out of bed. At Single Origin in Surry Hills, you’ll get a watermelon shot, smoked trout, avocado-and-poached-egg quinoa salad and honeycomb-infused cold brew coffee. Other spreads are more rustic such as the breakfast tasting board at Boschetto Cafe.

2. Bar Hop

(Throughout October at dozens of local bars, $20)
More than 50 favorite watering holes across the city will shake up a Tanqueray gin cocktail to pair with a custom-matched bar snack. At 360 Bar in the Sydney Tower, a dirty martini is paired with Pacific oysters in a cucumber-gin dressing. Hinky Dinks in Darlinghurst brings in some Latin flair; The Hotel Georgia (with gin, lemon, almond syrup, egg whites and orange blossom) is served with a mini chicken taco dressed with  jalapeno mayonnaise and radicchio.

3. Streets of Sydney

Let the locals guide you through some of Sydney’s most vibrant food neighborhoods. Choose between a bohemian food tour of Glebe (October 7 and 21, $120); a degustation dinner in Potts Point (October 11, $140); or a historic pub crawl in Redfern (October 1-31; from $10).

4. Hats Off Dinners

(October 3-27, various restaurants, $10-$260)
Some of the city’s hottest hatted chefs (the Australian equivalent of Michelin stars) prepare menus that incorporate  personal histories and passion ingredients. Berowra Waters Inn, about 40 minutes north of Sydney, will serve indigenous-inspired dishes while Momofuku Seiobo time travels to 2007 New York and the Bridge Room cooks up boat loads of sustainable seafood.

5. Night Noodle Markets

(Every evening, October 10-26, Hyde Park North, Free)
Paper lanterns and Christmas lights set the mood for the hawker-style Night Noodle Markets, a centerpiece of Sydney Good Food Month. The 2014 event will feature more than 50 stalls of dumplings, noodles, buns, rolls, wraps and soups plus an outdoor cinema, a wine bar, noodle-making demonstrations and inventive desserts like Gelato Messina’s Pot Luck Pie (three scoops of gelato served over sponge cake and topped with Asian cookies.) Foodie photographers should consider the walking tour of the Night Noodle Markets with Clique Photographers Association.
